A new educational series — “Workshops about a Basic Set of Guidelines on Data Protection” — has been launched on the Diia.Education platform with the support of the EU4DigitalUA project, funded by the European Union, in cooperation with the AEPD and the Office of the Ombudsman of Ukraine.
In today’s digital age, personal data has become a key resource for government, business, and citizens alike. At the same time, the requirements for its protection are becoming increasingly stringent. The new course will help specialists systematically acquire the knowledge needed to handle personal data in compliance with the legislation of Ukraine and the European Union.
“The national study of Ukrainians’ digital and AI literacy shows that personal data security concerns affect the majority of people: 67% of adults and 78% of teenagers have already encountered related risks. This makes it clear that building a digital state is impossible without systematic education. That is why we are launching an educational series on the Diia.Education platform focused on working with personal data — to help Ukrainians use digital services with confidence and protect their information,” stated Valeriya Ionan, Advisor to the First Deputy Prime Minister — Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine on Innovations, Digitalisation and Global Partnerships.
The programme offers structured training for those who already work with personal data or plan to do so professionally. It was developed with the participation of the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and experts from supervisory authorities in Ukraine and Spain — experienced practitioners in the implementation of the GDPR and other European data protection standards.
“As the national supervisory authority in this field, the Office of the Ombudsman of Ukraine aims to make this course a platform for building a community of specialists who work responsibly, ethically, and professionally. Throughout the training, participants will gain in-depth knowledge of the principles and mechanisms of personal data protection, international and national requirements, as well as practical tools for effective work,” said Dmytro Lubinets, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, in a video address.
The course comprises 13 series and 55 training videos covering, among other topics, key concepts in data protection, principles and legal grounds for data processing, data subject rights, risk management, auditing, international data transfers, and emerging issues related to artificial intelligence, Big Data, 5G, and cloud services.
Upon completion, participants will gain comprehensive knowledge required for the role of a Data Protection Officer (DPO), in line with the standards of Ukrainian and EU legislation.
“This course represents an important step in strengthening Ukraine’s institutional capacity in the field of data protection. It will help professionals gain a deeper understanding of European standards, adapt them to the Ukrainian context, and enhance public trust in digital services across the country,” said Miguel Ángel Lombardo, FIAP Technical Institutional Coordinator of EU4DigitalUA.
